The key to great art work and quilts is contrast.  Using contrast in the form of fabrics with different textures, patterns and value is the first step to making a quilt.  Adding embellishments such as thread play, couching, beading, painting and other mixed media will create dimension and contrast within the piece.  Most importantly, a design or concept is needed to expand on with all of these different techniques and the ideas are never ending.  Explore the world of contrast with Jen and learn a few tips, tricks and techniques that you can incorporate into your quilt making and art to add the Wow Factor.

  • Spend the day learning design concepts related to composition and colour and make a one of a kind piece of quilt art.
  • Start with a bag of supplies and receive a gradual set of instructions to produce a small unique project. For example, instruction #1 will be to create a background using two of the fabrics provided, instruction #2 will be to appliqué a design to the background and so on.
  • See how many different techniques can be incorporated into your piece, using many kinds of media.  Multiple techniques will be demonstrated and used, such as couching, texture magic and curved piecing.
